The Essentials of Life
This is the story of how my business came to life.
I had no idea what a doula was and had little experience with birth whatsoever. My childhood best friend’s mom was an Ob/gyn and I always thought that was cool and I loved babies, but that’s about as far as it went.
Fast forward to 2012 when my best friend Jasmine, from the Jasmine Nicoson Lifestyle Vlog, was expecting her first and knew her husband would be deployed during the birth. She asked me to be her doula. I said, “what’s that?”. “It’s just a labor support person, I want you to be my person”. I said, “You got it”. So, I started doing some research and learning all that I could.
So, by chance an organization that provides doulas to military families provided Jasmine with an actual trained/certified doula. Stephanie was her name. I got to shadow her and learn all her tips & tricks and see first hand what a doula really does. Incredible amazing birth and I was hooked!!
When Brad & I were planning our family I knew I wanted a doula, but I could not find one locally. So, I decided to train in 2014 with DONA International. My journey as a doula officially began. Once I decided to add placenta services I trained and certified with Placenta Benefits in 2016. I wanted to add childbirth education to my services and in 2020 I decided to triple train & certify with BEST becoming a doula, childbirth educator, & placenta specialist all through them.
Through the years I have seen just about any birth you can think of and still learn something new at every single one. I believe I am up to 50+ births and that number grows every month. I am constantly learning, growing, & thinking of new ways to better serve my clients. Which is why I added placenta encapsulation, childbirth education, and postpartum services. I am planning on adding even more services in the next year while I am on maternity leave and I can take some time “off” for more trainings.
